to be filled. Starting date is as soon as possible. The position is limited to 3 years.

The position is part of the project "Development of alternative control strategies and methods for the control of the planthopper Pentastiridius leporinus" (SynCoIn)”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
The overall aim of the project is to develop sustainable measures within the framework of integrated pest management to control P. leporinus. The planthopper poses a significant threat to sugar beet and potato production through the transmission of bacterial diseases. The main task of the sub-project is to develop combined measures for crop rotation, biological pest control and resistance induction, in co-operation with the project partners involved (Institute for Sugar Beet Research, Biocare, Südzucker, Pfeifer & Langen).

Your tasks

  • Further development of bioassay systems to identify non-host plants of the planthopper
  • Identification of chemical resistance inducers
  • Optimisation of an attract-and-kill method
  • Co-operation and co-ordination with project partners

Your profil
  • University degree (Master's/Diploma or equivalent) in biology, agricultural sciences or related fields
  • Experience in entomology
  • Experience in chemical ecology, molecular biology and/or phytopathology an advantage
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • High level of independence and commitment
  • Organisational and team skills
