The group of Prof. Dr. Ricardo Mata at the Faculty of Chemistry at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen welcomes applications for one

Ph.D. position (all genders welcome)

in the German Research Foundation (DFG)-funded Research Training Group 2455 “BENCh – Benchmark Experiments in Numerical quantum Chemistry”. The application window will be open up to 30.10.2021. The position is remunerated with 65% E 13 TV-L (corresponding to 25.87 hours per week) with a limited contract up to 31.12.2024. The earliest starting date will be 01.01.2022.

Your profile
- You hold (or are in the process of concluding) a Master’s degree in Chemistry or Physics;
- You are proficient in English;
- You are willing to travel and to collaborate with theoretical and experimental partners;
- You have experience with theoretical chemistry methods.
- You have experience with programming and data analysis methodologies.

The Mata group focuses on the development and application of electronic structure based methods for the description of non-covalent interactions and reactivity in chemical systems. The project will deal with the application of state-of-the-art local correlation methods for the study of proton dynamics, with potential applications to spectroscopy, solvation effects and the modelling of reaction pathways both in the gas and condensed phase.

The BENCh Research Training Group (BENCh RTG) consists of a high-level research programme aiming to provide landmark experiments for quantum chemical methods benchmarking. The students under the program will benefit from a wide variety of lab techniques in order to conceive and execute challenging experiments.
