The Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) welcomes applications for a senior scientist position with a strong background in human-robot interaction.

More than 60 professors from various TUM faculties cooperate within the framework of MIRMI.

Key Responsibilities

        • Coordination and management of the Human-Centered Robotics research field, including the following indicative list of topics:

                • Human-Robot Interaction (HRI)

                • Safe physical Human-Robot Interaction (pHRI)

                • Mobile manipulation and control

                • Perception

                • The assessment of the safety and performance of collaborative robots

                • Dynamic manipulation via exploiting intentional impacts for manipulation

        • Coordination of research projects including the responsibility to create project plans, resolve issues and conflicts, coordinate project tasks, monitor the budget, make reports, closely collaborate with project partners and stakeholders and ensure the success of the projects

        • Mentoring PhD candidates in various fields related to HRI

        • Contribution to the coordination of the Robot Performance & Safety Lab

        • Development of frameworks and test setups for investigating safe pHRI and evaluation of robot performance

        • Strong scientific contribution to the research projects of the Human-Centered Robotics research field

        • Driving publication of the research projects results in high-impact robotics journals and peer-reviewed international conferences

        • Supporting MIRMI lighthouse initiatives that aim to tackle human-robot interaction challenges

        • Funding acquisition and management of research proposals

        • Teaching activities at the Master's and/or Bachelor’s level courses

        • Coordinating the development of the research facilities to meet the excellence of the institute’s research goals

        • Supporting the senior management team for the management and administration of the institute.

Requirements

        • Ph.D. in robotics, mechatronics, computer science, or a related field

        • Previous experience as a postdoc researcher

        • Excellent research track records in the field of human-robot interaction supported by publications

        • Experience with programming robots and C++, ROS1, or ROS2

        • A well-established understanding of the field of robot safety (a specific focus on ISO/TS 15066 standardization is a plus)

        • Experience in self-reliant management of research projects (financial and administrative) including leading a team

        • High motivation and willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team

        • Fluency in spoken and written English, German is a plus
