The Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) welcomes applications for a position as a postdoctoral researcher (with excellent track records and prospective long-term academic perspective) with a strong background in IoT systems design for autonomous robot learning, cognition-enabled transferable embodied AI, and human-robot interaction for the coordination and scientific contribution to the euROBIN project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordination and management of TUM side within the euROBIN project - robotics and AI network in Europe addressing a new and integrated perspective in designing the future ecosystem of heterogeneous intelligent machines interacting with humans by cognition-enabled transferable embodied AI.
  • Development of embedded and modular IoT systems with AI-backed algorithms to track, evaluate, analyze, and enhance
    • Robot tasks in industry (primary) and health related application areas,
    • Cognition-enabled transferable embodied AI and learning,
    • Safe and robust human-robot interaction.
  • Scientific contribution to the existing research projects related to embodied AI, robot learning, and human-robot interaction and IoT systems development in MIRMI.
  • Contribution to the organization of the international Robothon Grand Challenge as a part of the automatica events within munich_i.
  • Mentoring of the PhD candidates, Master and Bachelor students on projects related to embodied AI, robot learning, and IoT systems based human-robot interaction.
  • Driving publication of project results in high-impact journals and peer-reviewed conferences in the robotics community.

Requirements

  • PhD in robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering or a related field.
  • Background and experience in embedded and IoT systems development for the application of autonomous robot learning, embodied AI, and human-robot interaction primarily in industry or medicine.
  • Strong track record of publications in embodied AI.
  • Very good command of the English language (German language is a plus).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High motivation and willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team.
  • Maturity and capacity to begin an independent research career.
  • Desire and potential to develop as a future academic leader.
