CALLING ALL FUTURE EXPERTS IN BIOELECTRONICS AT FRAUNHOFER MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TALENTS BY JOINING OUR TEAM. POSTS ARE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR:
Microtechnologist in the field of Bioelectronics

Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM works on an interdisciplinary basis in the field of integration of microelectronics. The group “Technologies for Bioelectronics” focuses on the design and fabrication of active neural interfaces. We integrate small custom-designed electronics into microsystems for stimulation of and recording from the neural tissue. Our microsystems are often flexible implants based on biocompatible materials tailored for the central or peripheral nervous system. We design, fabricate, package and test our implants for long-term use. We also investigate new approaches for neural stimulation and wireless power transfer.
Your duties and responsibilities:
You will assume a highly responsible predominantly lab-based role in the “System Integration and Interconnection Technologies” department. You will be integrated into an R&D team creating new, scalable methods of fabricating bioelectronic implants. You will be expected to execute and improve existing process flows both independently and as part of a team. Your main responsibility will be to support the group by performing the following tasks:

  • Work with and maintain vacuum deposition systems
  • Prepare and process materials and electronic components using a combination of the following techniques:

o Sputtering and plasma processeso Atomic layer deposition
o Parylene deposition (Gorham Process)
o Polymer processing (mixing, degassing, curing)
o Spin coating
o Surface mount technology and assembly processes
  • Evaluation of fabricated prototypes for material characterization, process optimization and yield improvement;
  • Maintaining a clean working area
  • Ensuring safe operation of equipment
  • Assisting students with experiments
  • Preparing detailed documentation on process development, including project-specific reporting
  • Procuring materials, consumables, spare parts as well as new equipment for routine maintenance and introduction of new processes and technologies.

What we expect from you

  • Experience as a lab technician in at least one of the aforementioned technologies
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary, intercultural and international teams
  • An eye for detail and good documentation skills
  • Experience of working with and maintaining vacuum deposition systems, particularly atomic layer deposition, chemical vapour deposition and sputtering
  • Experience with thin-film polymers e.g. Parylene
  • Experience with microscopy
  • Good communication skills in German and good command of English

Should your profile not correspond to the requirements to the full extent, do not hesitate to apply. If you have a learn-on-the-job mentality and high motivation support will always be provided when needed.
