Master Thesis - Unravelling the Cell-Electrode Interface

Your Job:

  • Analyze and extract the gap between electrodes and cells from scanning electron microscope image stacks
  • Extend and adapt a Finite-Element-Method simulation of the signal propagation from cell to electrode and compare it to experimental results
  • Simulate the importance of nanoengineering electrode surfaces and its influence on signal shape and quality
  • Potential lab work if interest in learning basics of cell culture and electrophysiology recordings

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or physics


You should ideally be:

  • curious and willing to learn techniques outside of your comfort zone
  • not afraid to take personal initiative
  • proficient at communicating with scientist from other disciplines (explaining your expertise in simple terms to them)
  • mastering Python at least at a basic level as lists, loops, basics of numpy, scipy, some understanding of classes. You will learn most of what you need on the job.
  • able to communicate clearly in English

You are expected to work in a partnership with your supervisor, and not in a subordinate relationship. You should challenge, ask, have your own ideas, and use the opportunity to become an independent researcher.
