Master Thesis - Model-based analysis of global hydrogen transport including differentiated transport options

Updated: 3 months ago

Your Job:

Fossil fuels are already traded globally and have to be transported over long distances. While the transport distances and routes mainly depend on the availability of fossil fuels in the exporting country, the availability of renewable energies in the exporting countries for the production of future energy carriers, such as hydrogen and its derivatives, will have a significant influence on the resulting transport route in the future. Since there may be several thousand kilometers between the production of the energy carriers and the demand for energy, pipelines and ships will be significantly used as the transport medium. Will future markets resemble those that we know today from fossil gas and oil? Or do we expect a different kind of market for hydrogen and its derivatives in the future? These are questions that your master thesis will help to answer scientifically. Your thesis will be structured as follows (changes can be made in the course of the thesis after consultation):

  • You will conduct a literature review on existing global transport and trade models for hydrogen
  • You will develop global scenarios based on your findings and implement them in an existing model of our institute
  • You analyze your scenarios and develop your own evaluation system for your scenarios

  • You are studying in your masters economics, engineering, industrial engineering or a comparable course of study
