Master Thesis - Development of a Load Profile Generator for Non-Road Mobile Machinery

Updated: about 5 hours ago

Your Job:

In this Master`s thesis, you will conduct research on various load and working profiles related to non-road mobile machines (NRMM), covering both construction and agricultural machinery. Following this, you will develop a load profile generator based on the insights gathered from different types of machinery, such as excavators, wheel loaders, telescopic cranes, tractors, and combine harvesters. This project aims to support the transition towards more sustainable energy systems within the NRMM sector by assessing efficiency and investments for different powertrain configurations. Your tasks will encompass the following areas:

  • Conduct a review of existing literature to understand current load profiles used in non-road mobile machinery. The focus should lie on their operational environment
  • Engage with several companies and stakeholders within the NRMM sector. Your goal is to gather real-world data and information that will help in the development of the load profile generator.
  • Design a unified strategy that allows for the creation of a flexible load profile generator based on existing models. It should accommodate various machine types and be customizable to meet specific user requirements
  • Develop a robust Python model to simulate the power requirements of NRMM under different operational scenarios. This model should rely on well-defined inputs and generate validated output types.
  • Integrate the newly developed load generator with the existing IEK-3 model. This integration aims to enrich the broader analysis of NRMM by providing more accurate and comprehensive data on energy consumption and efficiency

Your Profile:

  • Very good academic record and currently enrolled in a Master’s program in engineering (energy technology, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering) or a related field of study
  • Interest in topics and issues related to transportation or energy.
  • Ability to work independently and analytically as part of a project team
  • Experience in modelling and programming (especially in Python) is advantageous
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English and German

Our Offer:

We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change! We support you in your work with:
