Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) is a non-university research institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW employs approximately 600 people and one focus is on the training of young scientists (m/f/d) besides enhancing fundamental and applied research development. At the highest international level, the IFW operates modern materials science on a scientific basis and makes the obtained results useful for the economy. The complex and interdisciplinary research work is carried out within the IFW by five scientific institutes, which are supported by a highly developed technical infrastructure. The IFW supports its employees (m/f/d) in reconciling work and family life and regularly submits to the berufundfamilie® . Further information at: www.ifw-dresden.de .

Call for Junior Research Group Leader (m/f/d):

Sustainable Functional Materials

The Institute for Metallic Materials (IMW) of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) offers a Junior Research Group Leader position for candidates (m/f/d) with experiences in the synthesis and characterization of abundant nanostructured materials or materials for energy applications. The IMW has already a set of synthesis methods available, like Atomic Layer Deposition (thin films and powders), electrochemical deposition, microsystem technologies/MEMS and mechanical alloying and is open for further extensions on the methodology or further developments of the existing methodologies. We promote the material development for device integration and testing of materials in devices under harsh conditions.

Your profile:

The applicant (m/f/d) should have a completed PhD in materials science, applied physics, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry or electrical engineering and research experiences as a postdoctoral associate or fellow of at least two years.

The Junior Research Group Leader (m/f/d) may expand the existing research profile of IMW and work on one of the following or related research topics in the future:

•      Functional materials from abundant elements, from recycling or processing with small CO2 footprint

•      Development of flexible or microstructured devices from abundant materials or based on recycling of materials

•      Accelerated materials development based on datamining or combinatorial materials synthesis

•      Biological inspired materials or hierarchical materials or organic hybrid materials

We offer:

The position (100 %, part-time is possible) is remunerated according to the German tariff TV-L E14. It is provisionally limited to 2 years starting with an orientation phase, in which the research associate builds up his/her own research profile and prepares project proposals for third party funding. Upon proof of independent publications at IFW and the successful acquisition of a third-party funded project, the junior research group leader position will be extended by 2 plus 2 years. The second phase focuses on the development of the researcher’s own research profile and the establishment of his or her own research group. In the third phase, the focus will be on the qualification of the junior research group leader (m/f/d), aiming at the completion of his or her habilitation with teaching experiences and the successful acquisition of an ERC-Starting Grant or a comparable project.

The institute promotes the professional equality between all genders. The IFW would like to increase the proportion of women in science. Qualified women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Severely disabled applicants (m/f/d) are given preferential treatment if they have the same qualifications.

The application for this position should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and 3 highlight publications as well as a research outline of max. 5 pages. The complete application documents should be submitted citing the reference number 048-22-2001 as a single pdf file (other formats will not be accepted) to the following email-address:

Upon request interested applicants can visit the IMW@IFW before submitting their application.

The position is open till 31.10.2022.
