Head of Research Programme Bioactive Surfaces (m/f/d)

Full-time job (40 hours/week)/Target salary: TV-L/E 14

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for the scientific and administrative management of the research programme ‘Bioactive Surfaces’. You will lead and be a part of a highly motivated team of scientists, engineers and technicians in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and materials technology. Modern, extensive and highly specialized laboratory and diagnostic equipment are at your disposal. Current research activities include the development of plasma-supported processes for the modification of surfaces and materials for applications in the following areas:

  • Medical technology (e.g. cleaning, functionalization or coating of implants to control the cell-surface interaction)
  • Biotechnology (e.g. modification of surfaces to immobilize enzymes, bacteria or cells for biocatalytic systems or development of polymeric surface coatings for cell culture materials)
  • Diagnostics (e.g. development of novel functional layers or surface modifications for the design of biosensor platforms)

The spectrum of your tasks ranges from basic and applied research to technology transfer in industry, which includes:

  • Development and consolidatation of the strategy of the research programme with focus on attractive scientific and application-oriented topics. There will be also the chance to set up an additional junior research group. For this, please suggest appropriate topics in your application
  • Open up new industrial fields of application
  • Apply for appropriate third-party funding from the public sector and industry
  • Development and maintain contacts with recognized domestic and foreign institutes and industrial cooperation partners
  • Management of ongoing projects in cooperation with the project leaders
  • Commitment to your own research activities
  • Demonstration of a proven track record by academic publications, conference presentations, etc.

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Successfully completed university studies (master’s or diploma) as well as a doctorate, preferably in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, materials science, environmental science or comparable subject areas
  • Experience and knowledge in the area of ​​surface modification are necessary; further knowledge of plasma technology is an advantage
  • Links to one or ideally several of the following areas: surface modification / coating (PECVD, sputtering, etc.), Surface analysis (XPS, AFM, SEM, etc.), Surface structuring, HiPIMS, plasma spraying, plasma printing, plasma polishing etc.
  • Several years of leadership and project management experience
  • Proven expertise through project work and publications
  • Industry experience is an advantage
  • High level of commitment
  • Proven experience in acquiring third-party funding
  • Very good knowledge of German and English
  • Very good organizational skills and a hands-on mentality
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team, as well as creativity
