Job Offer from April 18, 2024

The Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen and the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory are institutes of the Max Planck Society and conduct fundamental research in biology. The institutes consist of six scientific departments and several research groups with approximately 500 employees and scientific guests who work together in an international community and are supported by administrative, technical and scientific staff.

As part of a retirement succession, we are looking to appoint a new full-time Head of Administration (f/m/d).

Your responsibilities

A team of 20 administrative staff members oversees daily operations at the institutes, ranging from Human Resources and Purchasing to Accounting. You will be responsible for leading this team. You will also directly support the institutes' executive management, both in an advisory role as well as in implementing their strategic decisions. For this, you will liaise with the administrative headquarters of the Max Planck Society in Munich and work in collaboration with the other institutes on campus.

Your profile

In your advisory role, you will need to demonstrate extensive knowledge of German law (e.g. labour, public procurement and budgetary control laws and their provisions), including the increasingly stricter export and import regulations. You will be expected to have the relevant academic qualifications for the position. Communication with management requires a professional level of both German (C2 level) and English (C1 level). Your previous leadership experience as well as excellent project management skills will be needed to head our team of administrative staff. You are proficient in working with SAP as well as Microsoft Office.

What we offer

The salary and contract are based on German TVöD guidelines, including all the additional benefits up to pay group level 15, depending on your qualifications and experience. We envision full-time employment on a permanent basis, following a structured induction period with the current Head of Administration. We also offer a wide range of training opportunities and a subsidized job ticket for public transport.

Our commitment to you

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
