Location: Aachen, NORDRHEIN WESTFALEN

The Department of Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University, together with the cooperating Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, is Europe's leading centre for basic and contract research in the field of laser technology. In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading centre for basic and contract research in the field of laser technology, is offering the opportunity to write a thesis in the field of "Joining and Cutting" on the subject of "Market and competition analysis for macro laser beam welding of metallic materials".

Due to rapidly developing technologies (examples include gigacasting projects, advances in additive manufacturing and the continuous development of materials such as high-entropy alloys and ultra-high-strength steels), research and development is facing particular challenges. In order to ensure international competitiveness, important developments and trends must be detected at an early stage and an understanding of customer-relevant topics must be generated. A market and competition analysis is to be carried out in order to forecast market developments and derive strategic measures.

What you will do

  • Independent familiarisation with the state of the art and science to identify current problems and trends in the field of macro laser beam welding
  • Time-related analyses to determine market potential, opportunities and risks
  • Development and realisation of a survey
  • Systematic analysis of competition and rivals
  • Data preparation and visualisation
  • Presentation of the results

What you bring to the table

  • Ongoing studies, industrial engineering or equivalent
  • Independent, organised and structured way of working
  • Good communication skills

What you can expect

  • A professional and dynamic working atmosphere
  • A creative and interdisciplinary working environment in a highly motivated team
  • Excellent machinery and equipment
  • Exciting and challenging areas of work in applied research
  • Freedom to develop your own ideas, projects for your field of study
  • Flexible working hours that allow you to combine your studies and professional practice
  • Very good travel options (bus, car)
  • Exciting seminars, events and team-building measures

The position is limited to the end of the thesis.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.
