Heidelberg University Women's Hospital, which is headed by Professor Oliver Zivanovic, is one of the largest Women’s Hospitals in Germany and holds International reputation. Heidelberg harbors a highly inspiring research environment that consists of the University of Heidelberg, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

We have implemented a structured training program for Gynecologists combining Gynecologic oncology surgery and world class cancer research at Heidelberg University Women's Hospital and DKFZ, respectively. We are looking for two highly motivated fellows (m/f/d) for the program, which is starting into the second year on September 1st, 2024. The advertised training program is a four-year program, of which a total of 22 months is devoted to protected translational research at the DKFZ. The remaining 26 months are devoted to clinical training in Gynecologic Oncology including rotations in Surgical Oncology, Breast Surgery, and Medical Oncology. The aim is the German habilitation/ equivalent to PhD as well as the acquisition of the specialization in Gynecological Oncology.

During the research period (22 months), translational research projects in the field of gynecologic oncology are developed and supervised in the DKFZ laboratory and linked with clinical data. Apart from participation in the local clinical registry trial and in the interdisciplinary tumor boards, no clinical responsibilities are assumed.

The period of clinical training (26 months) is devoted to surgical training in gynecologic cancer surgery including robot-assisted surgery. Mandatory rotations in General Surgery with a focus on colorectal and hepatobiliary surgery and in breast cancer surgery are planned.

Your Responsibilities

  • Working on research projects in the field of gynecologic oncology within the highly innovative and experienced research environment of the DKFZ. Publications in internationally respected journals
  • Curating of clinical registry databases and participation in interdisciplinary tumor boards
  • Performance of complex gynecologic operations including robot-assisted surgery and management of complex oncological diseases
  • Rotations in General Surgery (including on-call services) and in Breast Surgery (including breast diagnostics)

Ihr Profile

  • Completed Residency Training in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the beginning of the Fellowship
  • Team player and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and multiprofessional work environment
  • You are interested in Gynecological Cancer Research and are aiming for a post-doctoral qualification - previous experience in this field including scientific publications is desirable but not a prerequisite
