The State of Berlin as the building owner is currently establishing the "Veterinary Centre for Resistance Research" (VCR2) at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of Freie Universität Berlin together with financial support from the Federal Republic of Germany (according to Art. 91b GG). This is a nationally and internationally active veterinary research centre in which basic research in infection medicine, hygiene and clinical veterinary disciplines are brought together to work on questions of comprehensive resistance research in veterinary medicine. The common goal is to reduce the accumulation of resistance properties (resistome) of all infectious agents (bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites) in veterinary medicine. At the same time, the VCR2 is investigating the common overlapping resistance issues in human and veterinary medicine in the sense of the "One Health" approach. For the implementation and operation of the major research instruments MALDI-ToF MS/MS and HPLC/MS in the VCR2, a position as scientific assistant (Postdoc) with the following profile is available:

Job description:
Scientific and technical supervision of the large research instruments in the VCR2 in particular the MALDI-ToF MS/MS and the HPLC/MS; participation in research pro-jects of the VCR2 in cooperation with other working groups; guidance of technical staff as well as of PhD students and trainees; independent development of project ideas up to the application stage. The activity serves the own scientific qualification.

Requirements:
Completed university studies in veterinary medicine, human medicine, chemistry/biochemistry, biology or other biological/chemical sciences; dissertation or PhD

Desirable:
Sound experience in the field of proteomics (sample preparation, 2-D gel electro-phoresis, MALDI-ToF MS/MS); experience in MALDI imaging; basic experience in HPLC analytics; experience in molecular biology and/or transcriptomics; experience in working with infectious agents (genetically modified, BSL2); experience in applying for third-party funded projects, in organizing, and in coordinating collaborative research projects; very good command of English, both written and spoken.
