The interdisciplinary PhD project involves interdisciplinary collaboration between veterinary and human medicine, microbiology, cell biology and bioinformatics.

Job description:
Collaboration in a BMBF-funded interdisciplinary PhD project with the topic "Elucidation of the adhesion mechanisms of Streptococcus equi spp. zooepidemicus on heart valve tissue in the endothelial microfluidic model”. The project allows the combined application of innovative research techniques in the fields of veterinary bacteriology, primary cell culture, confocal microscopy, transposon mutagenesis and bioinformatic genome analysis. The participating laboratories have many years of expertise in the field of bacterial pathogenesis research. In addition to outstanding laboratory equipment
and excellent scientific support, the PhD position includes support for interdisciplinary networking and the attainment of the One-Health certificate.

Requirements:
Completed scientific studies; University studies in veterinary medicine, biology or diploma/master in life science.

Desirable:
Experience in working with bacterial infectious agents, especially streptococci; Experience in cell biological and microscopic techniques;
Experience in molecular biological work, especially cloning and mutagenesis; Basic knowledge of bioinformatics; Readiness for supraregional work Berlin/ Braunschweig; Excellent English skills in spoken and written; Team spirit.
