Fachbereich Politik- und Sozialwissenschaften - Institut für Soziologie Arbeitsbereich Gender Studies2 Positions Research assistant (postdoc) (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 30.06.2027 (for the duration of the project) Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU reference code: GENDER-POSTDOC-2024 Bewerbungsende: 08.04.2024
The Einstein Foundation funds two researcher positions (pre- or postdoctoral research associates) in two research projects on comparative gendered change in institutions in the team of Prof. Dr. Kathrin Zippel, Einstein Strategic Professor of Sociology with a focus on Gender Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. Knowledge economies have been undergoing transformations through economic, social, political, technological, pandemic-related, and other global processes. Academia is considered a site for contestation over the production of gendered knowledge and over ideas on the promotion of equality and diversity. One of the projects examines how globalization (re-) configures gender inequalities and diversity by focusing on institutional arrangements including internationalization strategies of institutions that shape opportunities but also barriers to academic mobility of students, researchers, and faculty. We will analyze how intersectionality and gender matter in discourses on internationalization, the networks among scientific organizations, and the flows of academics and their experiences between, within, and beyond North American and European contexts. Another project focuses on the diffusion of ideas in discourses on diversity, gender, and science with multiple data sources at the university, national, and supranational levels. This corpus will encompass policy reports as well as equality and diversity strategies and plans in several English-speaking countries and in the EU. The goal is to examine how demands for equality and diversity create tensions across institutions, countries, and regions of the world. The projects will use mixed-methods approaches, including qualitative interviews with and documents from universities, stakeholders and policymakers, etc. Computational text analysis methods will allow us to analyze gendered debates, identify the potentially gendered network structures among institutions and actors, and trace the diffusion of ideas.
