Fachbereich Politik- und Sozialwissenschaften - Institut für Soziologie Arbeitsbereich Empirische Sozialstrukturanalyse und Survey-MethodologieStudent assistant (f/m/d) 41 h/month limited to 2 years reference code: SOZSTRUKTUR-SHK-2026 Bewerbungsende: 28.09.2026
The Institute of Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin conducts research on current sociological questions. An international comparison, especially of European societies and the analysis of transnationalization and Europeanization processes are the core research areas of the Institute. The Institute offers the Master’s program "Sociology – European Societies" and the Bachelor's program "Globale Soziologie". The research and teaching agenda is implemented together with the Central Institutes for East European Studies, Latin American Studies, and the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies as well as through close cooperation with the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP). Further information can be found on www.polsoz.fu-berlin.de/soziologie .
The vacant position is assigned to the research group Social Stratification and Survey Methodology (Prof. Dr. Stefan Liebig). The research group investigates how individual preferences, values, attitudes, and the actions of individuals are shaped by social structures and vice versa: how do individuals influence the structures of modern societies by their actions. These analyses focus primarily on current social dynamics related to the development of social inequalities, migration and refugee movements, prejudice and discrimination, as well as social threats. When analyzing these phenomena, we proceed in a strictly theory-driven manner and draw on theories and explanatory approaches from the social, economic, and behavioral sciences. Our empirical studies generally build on large national and international cross-sectional and longitudinal datasets from the social and economic sciences. We are seeking a student research assistant with an interest in issues related to “social inequalities and their perception and evaluation”.
