The professorship of Florian Zemmin at the Institute of Islamic and Middle East Studies focusses on modern and contemporary Arabic intellectual history.
The advertised Post-Doc will work closely together with Prof. Zemmin in developing a project application on Arabic and Ottoman socio-political concepts.
Job description:
- development of a research project application in English on Arabic and Ottoman socio-
political concepts (ca. 1800–2000), including networking with potential collaborators and
writing of the actual application
- teaching 2 hours/week per semester (preferably in English)

Requirements:
- PhD in Islamic and Middle East Studies or a related discipline (esp. history, political
science)

Desirable:
- research focus on Ottoman history in early modernity or modernity
- experience in research on conceptual history
- experience in writing project applications
- excellent command of Ottoman Turkish and English
- knowledge of Arabic and German is of advantage, but not required
- teaching experience is an advantage, but not required
