The Department of Historical and Cultural Studies at Freie Universität Berlin invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in Jewish Studies within the framework of Emmy Noether Junior Research Group “Patterns of Knowledge Circulation: The Transmission and Reception of Jewish Esoteric Knowledge in Early Modern East-Central Europe,” founded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (http://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/401023278 ).

The project develops a systematic digital catalogue in the context of a comprehensive analysis of Jewish esoteric texts from East-Central Europe between 1500 and 1750. The project uses the “nodegoat” platform as its database research environment.

The project is currently looking for a qualified candidate with experience in Digital Humanities and its methods, and with interest in Jewish history. The area of responsibility includes participation in the research project mentioned above, in the form of support and coordination tasks.

Job description:

The work of postdoctoral researcher includes the following duties:

  • Research contribution related to the project's database, in the form of analysis of historical networks and their visualization based on the existing data set and the current data model of the project
  • Publication of research results via the project’s public interface "nodegoat" and on the project’s website
  • Scientific contribution to the project database
  • Scientific contributions to the project website and further public relations work for the project

Requirements:

PhD in Digital Humanities or a relevant field

Desirable:

  • Excellent command of English (B2/C1)
  • Experience in the methods of historical research network analysis and other relevant methods of digital humanities
  • Ability to work well both collaboratively and independently
  • High motivation and excellent organisation skills
