The planetary geodynamics group led by Prof. Dr. Lena Noack uses computational models to charaterize planetary processes that impact the long-term evolution of the planetary interior coupled to the surface and atmosphere for rocky planets within and beyond the solar system.
This expertise is to be further expanded with the advertised position within the ERC CoG third-party funded project "DIVERSE - DIVerse Exoplanet Redox State Estimations", which focusses on rocky exoplanets with secondary hydrogen atmospheres. With the ERC Consolidator Grants (CoG), the European Research Council (ERC) funds research projects over a period of up to 5 years.
The planned position is offered at the Freie Universität Berlin, Institute of Geological Sciences, in Berlin, Germany.

Job description:
We are seeking applicants for a position with the possibility to pursue a PhD within the project “DIVERSE - DIVerse Exoplanet Redox State Estimations“ (led by Prof. Dr. Lena Noack). The subproject will deal with the modeling of the redox state in the magma ocean and the resulting influence on the redistribution of volatile elements between the planet's interior (core, crystallized mantle, magma ocean) and atmosphere. The activity serves to further your own scientific qualifications.

Requirements:
Completed MSc studies (or equivalent) in Physics, Mathematics, or Geosciences by the time of employment.

Desirable:
