Fachbereich Geowissenschaften - Institut für Geologische Wissenschaften Arbeitsbereich Planetare GeodynamikResearch assistant (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 4,5 years Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU reference code: NO-ERC-2023-C Bewerbungsende: 15.05.2023
The planetary geodynamics group led by Prof. Dr. Lena Noack uses computational models to charaterize planetary processes that impact the long-term evolution of the planetary interior coupled to the surface and atmosphere for rocky planets within and beyond the solar system.
This expertise is to be further expanded with the advertised position within the ERC Consolidator Grant (CoG) third-party funded project "DIVERSE - DIVerse Exoplanet Redox State Estimations", which focusses on rocky exoplanets with secondary hydrogen atmospheres.
The planned position is offered at the Freie Universität Berlin, Institute of Geological Sciences, in Berlin, Germany, in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Planetary Research, Extrasolar Planets and Atmospheres, Berlin.
Job description:
We are seeking applicants at post-doc level for a position in the project “DIVERSE - DIVerse Exoplanet Redox State Estimations“ (led by Prof. Dr. Lena Noack). The subproject will deal with the modeling of the atmosphere of certain rocky exoplanets whose mantle material is chemically strongly reduced. In particular, atmospheric loss processes and their feedback on outgassing from the interior will be studied, and the observability of the resulting atmospheres will be evaluated.
Review of applications will start on the day after the application deadline until the position is filled. The earliest starting date of the position is the 1 June 2023, but can be negotiated to a later starting date in 2023.
Applications should include a CV including publications, a short letter of motivation for the position, degree certificates (MSc and PhD), as well as names, telephone numbers and email adresses of two references.
Requirements:
Completed doctoral degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Geosciences by the time of employment.
Desirable:
• Excellent academic record and doctorate/PhD thesis
• good programming skills
• Experience in atmospheric modelling
• very good English language skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team
• Interest in (co-)supervising students
For further information, please contact Frau Prof. Dr. Lena Noack ([email protected] / +493083863694).
Applications should be sent by e-mail, together with significant documents, indicating the reference code, in PDF format (preferably as one document) to Frau Prof. Dr. Lena Noack: [email protected] or postal to
