Fachbereich Biologie, Chemie, Pharmazie - Institut für Chemie und Biochemie DFG-Graduiertenkolleg 2662Research assistant (praedoc) (m/f/d) within the framework of the International Research Training Group GRK2662; with 65%part-time job limited to 3 years Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU reference code: grk2662_Praedoc_A3 Bewerbungsende: 14.02.2022
The DFG-funded International Research Training Group GRK2662 "Charging into the future: understanding the interaction of polyelectrolytes with biosystems", aims for a better understanding of the molecular interactions between polyelectrolytes such as DNA, proteins or heparin with complex biological systems. Key to this is a close collaboration between researchers at Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), McGill University, Montréal, and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (Canada), who share complementary expertise.
The International Research Training Group GRK2662 offers
- positions with a duration of three years and the opportunity for writing a doctoral thesis,
- a structured scientific training in an international research environment, including participation in a wide range of research-specific and career-development training events,
- integration into an interdisciplinary international research network,
- the opportunity for research stays in the laboratories of the Canadian partner institutions.
Job description:
This project (A3), hosted in the research group of Thomas Risse at FU-Berlin, aims at elucidating the structural implications of polyelectrolyte protein interactions on protein structure using spectroscopy particularly focusing on EPR and IR spectroscopy. The focus will be on two systems: firstly, the interaction of HMGB1 (High-Mobility-Group-Protein B1) with polysulfates will be studied in cooperation with the group of Jens Dernedde, Charite Berlin. Secondly, the interaction of the amyloid forming peptide A-beta with such polyelectrolytes will be elucidated in collaboration with the group of Gerd Multhaup, McGill University, Montréal (Canada). It is expected that the successful applicant is doing part of the experimental work in the partner group in Canada. For further project information, please visit www.grk2662.de .
The position serves the own scientific Qualification.
Requirements:
Completed scientific University degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or related subjects.
Desirable:
• High motivation to conduct independent scientific work
• Very good English skills both written and spoken
• Good communication skills and appreciation for cooperative team work
• Hands on experience in protein biochemistry
• Hands on in spectroscopy
We look forward to receiving your application, which should include the following documents:
• A one-page motivation letter with details of previous research experience and future goals
• Your curriculum vitae (with list of publications, if applicable),
• Evidence of your academic achievements including copies of your Bachelor's and Master's or Diploma degrees,
• At least two letters of support.
Applications should be sent by e-mail, together with significant documents, indicating the reference code, in pdf format (preferably as one document) to Mrs. Anna Wolf [email protected] .
On the given occasion and for the duration of the essential on-site operations by Freie Universität Berlin, we kindly ask you to apply electronically by e-mail. The processing of a postal application cannot be guaranteed.
