The DFG-funded International Research Training Group GRK2662 "Charging into the future: understanding the interaction of polyelectrolytes with biosystems", aims for a better understanding of the molecular interactions between polyelectrolytes such as DNA, proteins or heparin with complex biological systems. Key to this is a close collaboration between researchers at Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), McGill University, Montréal, and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (Canada), who share complementary expertise.
The International Research Training Group GRK2662 offers
- positions with a duration of three years and the opportunity for writing a doctoral thesis,
- a structured scientific training in an international research environment, including participation in a wide range of research-specific and career-development training events,
- integration into an interdisciplinary international research network,
- the opportunity for research stays in the laboratories of the Canadian partner institutions.
Job description:
In project B1, dendritic polyelectrolytes are synthesized and their ability to promote enhanced neuronal biocompatibility is investigated. The project performed in the group of Dr. Stephan Block will use atomic force microscopy (AFM), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy (TIRF) to probe the interaction of the synthesized polyelectrolytes with proteins and neuronal cells. For further project information, please visit www.grk2662.de .
The position serves the own scientific Qualification.
Requirements:
Completed scientific University degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related subjects.
Erwünscht:
• Experience in the application of atomic force microscopy or optical microscopy
• Experience in using MatLab or related software for analyzing large datasets
• Experience in analyzing force spectroscopic data or in quantitative image analysis
• High motivation to conduct independent scientific work
• Very good English skills both written and spoken
• Good communication skills and appreciation for cooperative team work
We look forward to receiving your application, which should include the following documents:
• A one-page motivation letter with details of previous research experience and future goals
• Your curriculum vitae (with list of publications, if applicable),
• Evidence of your academic achievements including copies of your Bachelor's and Master's or Diploma degrees,
• At least two letters of support.
For further information, please contact Mrs. Anna Wolf ([email protected] / +493083868438).
Applications should be sent by e-mail, together with significant documents, indicating the reference code, in PDF format (preferably as one document) to Mrs. Anna Wolf: [email protected] .
On the given occasion and for the duration of the essential on-site operations by Freie Universität Berlin, we kindly ask you to apply electronically by e-mail. The processing of a postal application cannot be guaranteed.
