Presentation of the DFG-CRC 1349:
The overarching goal of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center 1349 is the study of fluorine-specific interactions. The research projects are designed to understand and control the complex interactions that the element fluorine and fluorinated building blocks cause in inorganic and organic systems. For this purpose, the great expertise of the working groups involved in synthesis / biosynthesis, analysis / spectroscopy and theory / modeling is complementary and synergistically linked in order to systematically expand the understanding of fluorine-specific interactions, their conceptual substructure and their numerous consequences. SP A4 investigates how the segregation properties of fluorine, which are widely used in organic chemistry, affect the self-organization of peptides.

Job description:
Area of responsibility:
Participation in research and teaching in the following area: Study of the ability to self-organize novel, highly fluorinated peptides and their conjugates as well as their interaction with model and bio-membranes. These studies, depending on the degree of fluorination, are carried out using CD spectroscopy, thioflavin-T fluorescence assays and cryo-EM. Interactions with membranes will be studied, for example, using IR spectroscopy or fluorescent dyes. The goal is to develop novel biopolymers.
This requires: Organic synthesis of artificial amino acids to modify peptides, peptide synthesis, characterization of the novel peptides with regard to conformation and self-aggregation properties, determination of the interaction with artificial membranes and biomembranes.
The opportunity to do a doctorate is given.

Requirements:
Completed university degree in chemistry or chemical engineering (MSc./Diplom) or equivalent dergree

Desirable:
Very good academic achievements, extensive experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of organic synthesis of natural substances, polymer chemistry; Extensive practical experience in organic synthesis, synthesis of fluorinated organic molecules, biopolymers; experience and knowledge in the field of analysis, very good knowledge of English.
