Offer Description

The industrial doctorate at Infineon: Pursue a doctoral degree at a university and gain professional experience simultaneously - an ideal start for your career. Advance your research with us and profit from our vast network of doctoral candidates and the expertise of a university. Mentorship is handled by both professors and dedicated Infineon employees.

We are offering a doctoral thesis dealing with the system integration of electronics to control a trapped ion quantum computer that operates at cryogenic temperatures.

The thesis will be written in cooperation with Leibniz University Hannover and under the supervision of Professor Ospelkaus.

Job description

The tasks within the thesis will consist of:

  • Gathering understanding of the trapped ion quantum computer system from partners
  • Defining interfaces between the different blocks integrated in the System-on-Chip (SoC)
  • Developing a concept for a SoC architecture for efficient ion chain transport control in trapped ion quantum processors
  • Implementing the architecture and verify it in a trapped ion system in the lab

The learnings out of the thesis lead to…

  • Control architecture of a mixed signal system
  • Understanding of the trapped ion quantum computer system
  • Scalable trapped ion quantum computing

Your profile

A doctoral student is a research enthusiast,

  • …whose interests are scientific research combined with the passion for Infineon’s innovative products and applications.
  • …who enjoys working in an industrial environment in combination with an Infineon partner university.
  • …who appreciates open communication and the contribution of an international environment.
  • …and is thus an excellent candidate for a further academic or industrial career after completion of their thesis.

As the ideal candidate you:

  • Are eligible for full-time PhD studies and have a university master degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with focus on digital design
  • Are a highly motivated individual striving for in-depth understanding of digital design for trapped ion quantum computing; prior knowledge of trapped ions is a plus
  • Have a high interest on the scientific research combined with the passion for working in the quantum computing field
  • Possess good knowledge of digital design and RTL modeling in VHDL and/or (System) Verilog; RTL synthesis as a plus
  • Have experience in digital control of embedded mixed signal systems
  • Enjoy networking and have broad communication skills
  • Have good English language skills (both oral and written communication); German language skills are a plus

Driving decarbonization and digitalization. Together.

Infineon designs, develops, manufactures, and markets a broad range of semiconductors and semiconductor-based solutions, focusing on key markets in the automotive, industrial, and consumer sectors. Its products range from standard components to special components for digital, analog, and mixed-signal applications to customer-specific solutions together with the appropriate software.

– Power & Sensor Systems (PSS) drives leading-edge power management, sensing, and data transfer capabilities –

Infineon PSS semiconductors are enabling intelligent power management, smart sensitivity, and fast, reliable data processing in an increasingly digitalized world. Our state-of-the-art power and connectivity devices make chargers, servers, mainboards, power tools, and lighting systems smarter, smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient. In addition, our trusted sensors give things an intuitive sensing capability to make them contextually aware, and our RF chips support fast and reliable data communications.

*The term gender in the sense of the General Equal Treatment Act (GETA) or other national legislation refers to the biological assignment to a gender group. At Infineon we are proud to embrace (gender) diversity, including female, male and diverse.

Does this sound like just the right challenge for you? If so, we look forward to getting to know you!
