The Department Atomic-Scale Dynamics in Light-Energy Conversion is looking for

Doctoral Student (f/m/d) in Pump-Probe Ultrafast X-Ray Spectroscopy of Photocatalytic Materials

Your Tasks

  • You will conduct in-house research in the field of ultrafast dynamics in molecular materials (transition-metal complexes, organic framework materials, etc.).
  • You will participate in the use and further development of time-resolved soft and hard X-ray spectroscopy setups at BESSY II.
  • You will develop and use a femtosecond laser spectroscopy setup.
  • You will use and develop advanced X-ray spectroscopy theory and data analysis tools.
  • You will prepare samples and characterize them using in-house facilities.
  • You will participate in experiments with external collaborators and users at national and international synchrotron and X-ray free-electron laser facilities.
  • You will publish and present results at (inter-)national conferences and meetings.

Your Profile

  • Master?s degree or diploma in chemistry, physics, materials science, or similar discipline with above average marks
  • Basic expertise in data acquisition and data analysis
  • Proven experience in experimental techniques and instrumentation for characterizing solids and/or molecules
  • Good knowledge of physics for the description of excited states in molecules, nanoparticles and/or solids
  • High level of interest in instrumentation and technique development
  • Good oral and written communications skills in English
  • High level of ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work in a team in an international environment
