Job description:

Reference No. QM 2024/9

The Department Spin and Topology in Quantum Materials is looking for

Doctoral researcher (m/f/d) in laser physics and materials research

Your Tasks

  • In-house research in the fields of spintronics/magnetisation dynamics/topological phases.
  • Installation and further development of an existing femtosecond laser facility:
    • Synchronisation of laser and synchrotron pulses, technical development of temporal and spatial overlap of detection capabilities and laser and X-ray beams.
    • Implementation of X-ray scattering methods for laser excitation/X-ray interrogation in high vectorial magnetic fields.
    • Development of laser beam diagnostics, laser beam control, and optimisation of excitation pulse parameters for user experiments.
  • Offer support and cooperate with partners and users.

Your Profile

  • Scientific and technical knowledge in the following fields: femtosecond laser optics, time-resolved linear and non-linear magneto-optics, time-resolved soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (especially circular and linear dichroism contrast mechanisms), and laser/x-ray synchronization techniques
  • Excellent knowledge in the fields of magnetic thin films and multilayers
  • Advanced experience with time-resolved spin-transport and magnetization dynamics are desired
  • Basic programming skills (e.g. C++, Mathematica, Igor) and basic knowledge of data analysis
