Doctoral Researcher for Material Chemistry (m/f/d)

We are looking for a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher in the field of materials science with interests in the following topics: chemical vapor deposition, characterization of nanomaterials, photochemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. The project concerns the development of heterogeneous catalysts to catalytically transform dinitrogen (N2) into N-containing organic compounds and is part of a DFG Priority Programme “Nitroconversion”. The accepted candidate of the SPP2370 project will join the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Colloid Chemistry Department, in the group of Dr. Aleksandr Savateev (https://www.mpikg.mpg.de/5785759/innovative-heterogeneous-photocatalysisGiu) and co-supervised by Dr. Paolo Giusto (https://www.mpikg.mpg.de/2d-covalent-thin-films-for-energy-storage).

The project involves a direct research collaboration with the University of Regensburg (the group of Dr. Joshua P. Barham), for which a separate Doctoral Researcher position is advertised with expertise in synthetic chemistry/electrochemistry/flow chemistry. The MPI-based Doctoral researcher will have the opportunity to spend up to 6 months working with the University of Regensburg.

The position is available starting from 3rd October 2022 (Contract start date: 1st October 2021).

Your qualifications
• Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry of in a related science (certificate must be valid prior to 1st Sept)
• Outstanding profile, excellent performance in your studies and high enthusiasm for science
• Social competence, good English communication skills (B2 or higher), open-minded and flexible
• Strong background and interest in synthesis and characterization of heterogeneous catalysts.
• (Desirable) experience in preparation of thin films by chemical vapor deposition
• (Desirable) experience in physical methods for characterization of semiconductors thin films
