The successful applicant will assume research and teaching responsibilities in the field of didactics in political science with a focus on sustainability/transformative education.

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 102a of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berlin-er Hochschulgesetz – BerlHG).

The successful applicant will have completed university studies with teacher training in the field of political science, didactics in political science, social studies, social sciences, community sciences, or a similar discipline, and/or a second state examination in the subject didactics in political science (or a similar subject.) They will hold a doctorate as well as demonstrating excellent achievements in research and publications in the field of didactics in political science. The successful candidate should have relevant teaching experience at the university level and be able to teach in German. They will also have experience in teaching at schools in accordance with Section 100.3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetzes, BerlHG). Ideally, they will have experience in key areas of research and work in the field of sustainability and transformative education.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The new junior professor will cooperate with the Center for Didactics in Political Science and estab-lish projects in the area of didactics in political science with a focus on sustainability and transforma-tive education. The scope of the professorship should include working closely with the Dahlem School of Education as well as other departments and divisions that offer teacher training programs at Freie Universität Berlin, and participate in existing and future research associations in the State of Berlin. They will also address gender and diversity in their teaching.

The new junior professor is appointed for an initial six year period with a performance review sched-uled for the fourth year of their appointment. If the appointee successfully passes their tenure eval-uation at the end of their junior professorship, they will be appointed to a permanent professorship through a streamlined procedure (i.e., the permanent appointment will not be advertised as a sepa-rate position). As part of this process, performance goals will be negotiated at the time the junior professor is hired. The fulfillment of those goals will be assessed as part of the tenure evaluation (Section 102c of the Berlin Higher Education Act, BerlHG).

The performance goals will cover (but are not limited to) the following areas:

•    Research
•    Teaching
•    Promoting early-career researchers
•    Academic committee work
•    Leadership and management
•    Language proficiency

At the time of appointment to the permanent professorship, all general regulations and conditions regarding public sector employment must be fulfilled.

In addition, any candidates who are employed at Freie Universität Berlin as their main employer must comply with the regulations stipulated by the Berlin Higher Education Act, Section 102.c.3.

If applicable, please give information on partner-ships with industry, inventions/patents, and spin-offs.
