The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of ancient history.

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz – BerIHG).

The candidate’s main area of research should be Greek and/or Roman history. They should also have international teaching experience in both areas as well as an excellent record of research activities, including experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects. They should also be able to teach in German and English.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The appointee will work together with the various established and planned research groups at Freie Universität Berlin and in other academic and non-academic contexts affiliated with ancient studies in Berlin. The new professor is also expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary work being done in conjunction with the Margherita von Brentano Center for Gender Studies. Furthermore, they will engage with gender and diversity issues relevant to their field as part of their research, teaching, and administrative duties.

Please provide information on any partnerships with industry, inventions/patents, and spin-offs, to which you have contributed.
