The appointed candidate will cover research and teaching in the field of child and adolescent clinical psychology and psychotherapy in the Department of Education and Psychology (Psychology) and contribute to developing them further.

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Successful candidates should hold an Approbation (license to practice) or have completed an additional qualification in psychotherapy for children and adolescents. They should demonstrate a research focus in at least one of the following areas of child and adolescent psychology: (1) Empirical and experimental investigations of mental disorders and adaptive processes, (2) identifying the manifestation of psychological processes in everyday life, e.g., through EMA or sensory-based procedures, (3) research into psychotherapeutic processes and outcomes. Further, applicants should have an international teaching record and be able to demonstrate a history of excellent research through publications. They should also demonstrate experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

One of the new appointee’s main tasks will be to establish a new research area for children and adolescents at the interface of clinical psychology and health promotion. They will work closely with the Division of Clinical Psychology and the Division of Clinical Psychological Intervention. The new professor will also bring an interdisciplinary approach to working with further research groups within the department, with other departments at Freie Universität Berlin, and with other institutions within the Berlin University Alliance (BUA). A central project will be to establish and lead an outpatient treatment center based at the university offering psychotherapy for children and adolescents. The new appointee is expected to coordinate and develop the teaching curriculum in the Clinical Psychology Division, especially in child and adolescent clinical psychology and psychotherapy for bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in psychology at Freie Universität Berlin. They will also teach courses in those programs and be involved in practical training semesters and promoting collaborative projects with organizations that fall within the BQT3 framework. They will participate in regional, national, and international joint research projects and contribute to the relevant research communities with outstanding, internationally relevant research. The new professor will also play an active role in the department’s planned joint research activities and will be expected to address gender and diversity issues in research and teaching.
