The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of pharmaceutical biology.

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Successful candidates must be licensed pharmacists (known as an “Approbation” in Germany) and will havean excellent, distinguished scientific track record with a research focus in the field of pharmaceutical biology oriented toward active ingredients in plant-derived and microbial secondary metabolites, as well as their isolation, analytics, and characterization.They will have conducted extensive research, preferably in one of the following areas of pharmaceutical biology: modern sequencing techniques (whole genome sequencing), genome analyses of biosynthesis routes of secondary metabolites, development of molecular and/or biochemical assays for characterizing natural substances, phytochemical extraction and analytical methods (e.g., Supercritical Fluid Chromatography / Extraction [SFC/SFE]), NMR, and/or mass spectrometry.The appointee will have several years of experience in teaching and conducting examinations in the field of pharmaceutical biology in accordance with the German regulations governing the licensure of pharmacists (Approbationsordnung für Apotheker/innen). They should also have experience in acquiring and leading third-party funded research projects as well as partnerships with industry. The ability to teach in German is essential for this position.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

A key task of the appointee will be to develop a promising, internationally visible and externally funded research program with a pharmaceutical focal point. They will also be expected to work closely together with the research groups within the Institute of Pharmacy with regard to research and teaching, especially in analytical chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology, as well as to participate in research consortia within the department and with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The new professor will also be expected to address gender and diversity issues as part of their teaching.
