Job description

The Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) as central scientific institution and center for data-intensive computing at KIT is playing a leading role within the PUNCH4NFDI project in the conception, development and automated operation of a federated and nation-wide distributed compute infrastructure.

The successful candidate is expected to explore, develop and operate new highly efficient compute and storage technologies in an ambitious and dedicated team. To complement the federated compute infrastructure and to ensure efficient access to external hosted data, the application of distributed and coordinated data caches in conjunction with the introduction of data-locality aware scheduling is envisaged.

Additional tasks of the successful candidate include the deployment and testing of a federated and distributed multi petabyte storage solution (Datalake), which is developed in another PUNCH4NFDI sub-topic by external partners. As well as the representation of the SCC in the relevant PUNCH4NFDI working groups.

In addition, it is expected that the successful candidate publishes her/his scientific results in renowned journals and presents them at national/international conferences.

If desired, there will be the opportunity to obtain an extra-occupational doctorate.


Personal qualification
  • University degree (diploma/master) in computer science, physics or another equivalent discipline
  • Very good knowledge of at least one object-oriented programing language, ideally Python

  • Very good knowledge of tools and technics for collaborative software development in particular the version control system git, continuous integration & development, as well as test driven development

  • Distinctive experience in the operation and administration of Linux based IT services, ideally using configuration management systems like puppet.

  • Ideally basic knowledge of asynchronous programming and distributed computing.

  • Very good oral and written English language skills.


Salary

Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
