The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and is funded by the federal and state governments. AWI focuses on interdisciplinary polar, coastal and marine research in climate science, geoscience (or earth science) and the biological sciences (www.awi.de).

International Science Program for Integrative Research in Earth Systems

AWI is recruiting twenty PhD candidates to strengthen its contribution to the Helmholtz Association’s research program “Changing Earth – Sustaining Our Future.” The Institute is now accepting applications in the following research areas:

• Climate and geosciences (atmosphere, ocean, ice and land)
• Coastal systems
• Terrestrial arctic ecosystems and permafrost
• Marine and polar life
• Marine data science (see also MarDATA)

All PhD candidates will become members of AWI’s postgraduate program POLMAR and thus benefit from a comprehensive training program and extensive support mechanisms.

Depending on the respective research area and position, the place of employment will be Bremerhaven, Potsdam, Sylt, or Helgoland.
