The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Associate Professor in » Medical Robotics « to begin as soon as possible. The position is a tenured W3 position.

Scientific Environment

The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine and Health; within the school, the professorship will become part of the future Center for Medical Robotics, a center at the interface of research and patient care at the TUM University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. Close collaborations within the School of Medicine and Health, with TUM’s computer science and engineering schools and the Munich Institute for Robotics and Machine Intelligence, support an outstanding scientific environment to establish new robotic solutions for medical needs.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to strengthen TUM’s focus on developing and integrating new robotic devices in all medical fields, including surgery, care and logistics. Therefore, the professorship will enable the application of robotics by integrating it into medical concepts and structures. Teaching responsibilities include courses at TUM School of Medicine and Health and responsibilities in the university’s bachelor and master programs. In addition, we expect successful candidates to engage in interdisciplinary and innovative teaching formats to enable students to apply medical concepts in developing robotic solutions.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with outstanding scientific experience and qualifications, as demonstrated by achievements in research and teaching at the highest international level. A university degree, an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, and pedagogical aptitude are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad, the proven ability to attract third party funding and a clear commitment to interdisciplinary research are required. We expect successful candidates to build strong collaborations with clinical partners and partners at TUM’s relevant schools to catalyze robotic solutions in patient care. Therefore, knowledge of medical and clinical concepts, as well as knowledge in integration and validation of relevant products and concepts into clinical and surgical routines are mandatory and a university degree in human medicine is a prerequisite.
