Assistant professor position in Sports Science with a focus on movement and cognition over the lifespan (Junior Professorship, W1, non tenure track) (f/m/d)

to be occupied starting October 1st, 2022.

Your responsibilities:

We are looking for a junior scientist with a strong and innovative research profile in the field of movement and cognition, which should be further developed in the interdisciplinary environment of Heidelberg University. A focus in the field of human movement research with a training/movement/neuroscience or sport psychology orientation with regard to the development or maintenance of cognitive performance in different target groups and settings is expected. Close affiliation with the Chair of Human Movement, Training and Active Aging of the Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences is envisioned. Overall, the successful candidate will find a stimulating research environment and attractive laboratory opportunities. This includes established collaborations and networks (Network Aging Research, Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim i.a.) as well as the opportunity to use the Core Facility for Neurophysiological Research of the Field of Focus 4 (FoF4) "Self-Regulation and Regulation: Individuals and Societies" at Heidelberg University.


Teaching responsibilities include participation in all bachelor and master programs of the Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences with regard to basic principles of exercise therapy and health, especially the accentuation of health research in the master program "Sport and Exercise over the Lifespan".

Your qualifications:

A degree preferably in the field of sports science or psychology is expected. A high methodological competence in the field of neurophysiological measurements (e.g. EEG, fNIRS) is desired. In general, we expect excellent communication skills and a high degree of willingness to cooperate with the work groups of the Institute of Sports and Sports Science and the faculty’s research units.


The professorship is a temporary qualification position. In accordance with Article 51 (Higher Education Act of the state Baden-Württemberg), this appointment requires a completed degree, an excellent and outstanding doctorate in the relevant field, publications in international, peer-reviewed journals and pedagogical aptitude which has generally been proven through teaching experience.


If employment as a research assistant preceded or followed the doctorate, the doctoral phase and employment phase together should not have exceeded six years. The obligated teaching hours are currently four semester hours per week according to the Teaching Obligations Ordinance (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung) of Baden-Württemberg.
