Assistant Professor in RNA-based Infection Research (W1)

Updated: about 1 year ago
Location: Germany,
Deadline: 19 Mar 2023

The Faculty of Medicine at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg and the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) jointly invite applications for an

Assistant Professor in RNA-based Infection Research (W1).

The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial period of three years, with an additional three years being granted after completion of a mid-term evaluation. The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

We are looking for scientists with an internationally visible research profile at the interface of RNA biology or technologies and infection disease research. We welcome applications from candidates from basic research and translational fields that enable participation in the university’s biomedical research structures. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate international excellence according to their career level and are ready to lead. Entry requirements are a university degree in biology, chemistry, human medicine or a comparable discipline, an above-average doctorate or a comparable special qualification for scientific work. We particularly welcome applications from experts on the function, mechanisms and structure RNA molecules in host or pathogen during bacterial or viral infections, on RNA therapeutics approaches including the delivery of nucleic acids, and on RNA localization and RNA modification. In addition, we are interested in candidates who focus on emerging RNA-centric techniques such as single-cell RNA-seq and molecular recording.

The Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI), established in May 2017, is a joint venture between the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) Braunschweig and the Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg (JMU). Located on the Würzburg medical campus, it is the first research institution in the world to focus on the role of RNA in infection processes. The HIRI employs integrative approaches to exploit the vast potential of RNA as a diagnostic molecule and as a target or drug for new strategies to combat infectious diseases. We offer an international and vibrant scientific environment, as well as state-of-the-art infrastructure. For further information, please visit www.helmholtz-hiri.de or contact the founding director Jörg Vogel ([email protected] ).

The Helmholtz Society and the JMU seek to increase the number of women holding professorships and explicitly invite outstanding female scientists to apply. Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preference. The legally binding German version of this announcement was published in “DIE ZEIT” on February 2nd , 2023. The advertisement and an application form are available at https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/fakultaet/berufungsverfahren/ .

Please submit your application in English (or German) with the usual documentation (cover letter, signed curriculum vitae, copies of academic certificates, list of publications and third-party funding) by 19.03.2023. We prefer applications to be sent as a single pdf file to [email protected] .
