Analog Physical Implementation Engineer

Updated: about 1 year ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Your Job:

Our team is working on integrated circuits which combine analog and digital components in modern CMOS technologies for various research applications ranging from circuits for qubit control for quantum computing or integrating memristors as novel devices for neuromorphic computing. As this variety requires several different full-custom circuits, we are looking for physical implementation experts for modern nodes like 28 nm bulk CMOS or 22 nm silicon on isolator (SOI). Do you have experience with analog layout of these or similar nodes already? Would you like to contribute to research work on emerging technologies? Then we might be looking just for you!
Specific tasks are:

  • Conceptual physical design and layout of novel full-custom circuits in 22 nm SOI or 28 nm bulk CMOS technologies using the Cadence toolchain
  • Development of innovative layout methods (p-cells) for the requirements of modern nanoscale components
  • Take advantage of modern layout features of Cadence Layout XL and GXL
  • Integration of novel designs and concepts for digital blocks and input/output structures (e.g., a padframe) into the physical design
  • Close collaboration with the designers to optimize the circuit layouts
  • Handle the sign-off verification flow using especially Mentor Calibre tools and prepare data for tapeout
  • Support the environment optimization for a more efficient tool usage

Your Profile:

  • University degree (Master) in electrical engineering, physics or similar fields or extensive practical experience in the field
  • Familiar with analog CMOS layout with the Cadence toolchain and sign-off flows (DRC, LVS, parasitic extraction, DFM) with the Mentor toolchain
  • Experience in the design finalization processes (e.g., metal filling, integration of digital IP blocks with the analog circuits, data preparation for tapeout)
  • A basic understanding of padframes or bump bonding interfaces, ESD concepts, latch-up, bulk connection topics and electromigration
  • Eager to learn and master the individual features contemporary PDKs offer and enforce (e.g., dual patterning or additional verification tools)
  • A healthy level of perfectionism to complete layouts that fulfill high quality standards and not just minimum tool requirements
  • Interest in optimizing the Cadence toolchain and technology files (SKILL)
  • Basic knowledge of Linux environment
  • Good English capabilities and preferably good knowledge of German

Please apply for the position even if you do not have all the required skills and knowledge. With us, your personality counts just as much as your skills, regardless of age, origin, gender, sexual identity, disability, or ideology.

Our Offer:

We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change! We support you in your work with:

  • A large research campus with green spaces, offering the best possible means for networking with colleagues and pursuing sports alongside work
  • Comprehensive training courses and individual opportunities for personal and professional further development
  • Extensive company health management
  • Ideal conditions for balancing work and private life, as well as a family-friendly corporate policy
  • Full-time position with the option of slightly reduced working hours and flexible working time models
  • 30 days of annual leave and provision for days off between public holidays and weekends (e.g. between Christmas and New Year)
  • Targeted services for international employees, e.g. through our International Advisory Service

We offer you an exciting and varied role in an international and interdisciplinary working environment. The position is for a fixed term of 2 years. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, e.g. in terms of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation / identity, and social, ethnic and religious origin. A diverse and inclusive working environment with equal opportunities in which everyone can realize their potential is important to us.
