The Department Storage Rings and Beam Physics is looking for

Accelerator Physicist (f/m/d) for Operation and Development of the Metrology Light Source

Your Tasks

  • You take an active role in the accelerator physics team at HZB and, in particular, responsibility for daily user operation and development of MLS.
  • You act as a liaison for communication with our customer ? the PTB.
  • You monitor and ensure user operation quality and reliability of the MLS as well as track down root causes of outages and coordinate and support the work of our specialists from the accelerator physics side.
  • You try to push the MLS to its full potential by applying research and upgrading projects. This involves definition, evaluation, initiation, coordination, support as well as incorporating the accelerator team.
  • You adopt the usage of modern computational methods at the MLS - in particular to be applied during (automated) machine commissioning.
  • You have an interest in guiding students and supervising bachelor?s, master?s, and doctoral theses.

Your Profile

  • Doctoral degree/PhD in physics or related field
  • Profound knowledge of accelerator physics with hand-on experience on electron storage rings
  • Beam dynamics background including the areas of nonlinear beam dynamics & collective effects
  • Established coding capabilities in Python and knowledge of modern methods of software development as well as modern techniques
  • You are able to coordinate and solve complex problems in a research and production environment with a team of technicians, engineers and scientists
