The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences/the Chair of Comparative Politics at the University of Potsdam invites applications for the following position limited to two years to be filled by October 1, 2024:

The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week (100 %). The position is classified within remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German federal states (“Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder” – TV-L). The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act on Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science and Academia (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or WissZeitVG)

Your Field of Work:

As part of the position, you will work on the DFG project "Powerful Polls" (PI: Dr. Werner Krause).

The Scope of Your Responsibilities:

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher specializing in Comparative Politics, Political Behavior, and/or Political Sociology. The role offers opportunities for developing self-directed research and academic qualification. Expected responsibilities include developing your own research profile, working on internationally visible publications, and initiating external funding projects. Support will be provided for academic advancement and didactic training. There is no teaching obligation.

Further academic qualification (post-doctoral thesis (Habilitation)) is possible. At least one-third of working hours is available for independent academic work.

Your Qualifications:

  • Master’s and PhD degree in Political Science or a related field
  • if the dissertation is about to be completed, please indicate the planned date of the defense in your application
  • very good knowledge in Comparative Politics and/or Political Behavior
  • experience in conducting survey experiments and advanced skills in quantitative research methods using R/Stata
  • social competence and the ability to work effectively in a team
  • very good command of written and spoken English
  • German language skills are not a requirement for the position
