Offer Description
Education

The candidate will be required to teach engineering courses delivered by ISAE-Supméca, under student status and under apprentice status (in partnership with CFAI MECAVENIR and a new training program with other ISAE group members).

As such, the candidate will contribute to teaching courses in mechanical engineering sciences (mechanics of materials, surface mechanics, choice of materials, finite elements simulation in particular). The candidate will also join the teaching team for the “Materials, Processes and Simulation” curriculum (M2, students). Furthermore, he/she will ensure the educational monitoring of students as part of their end-of-study thesis (M2 apprentices), end-of-study internships (M2 students) as well as in their project activities (M1 and M2). The candidate will also be involved in continuous training in “tribology and mechanical design”.

The ability to propose and implement innovative teaching methods in our training courses is also strongly encouraged.

Research

The candidate will become part of the “Tribology and Materials” research team (TriboMat) within the Quartz laboratory. The team focuses on enhancing performance in service and increasing the lifespan of parts or mechanical components under severe conditions. This activity includes the challenges of ecological transition, in particular by taking into account bio-sourced materials, greener lubrication solutions (solid, grease or liquid) as well as the reduction of friction losses.

Despite regular improvements in models and numerical simulations, the study of tribological phenomena necessarily involves an important experimental phase. Moreover, the TriboMat team designs and manufactures its own tribometers to ensure perfect control of the experimental data produced. These original benches make it possible to reproduce severe operating conditions (loading, kinematics, environment, lubrication, etc.) and the resulting phenomena (friction, wear, heating, etc.)

To gain a better understanding of local phenomena, the team intends to develop models of current and future tests. These models will need to include experimental data of various kinds, relating both to the specimens (material behavior, surface conditions, relative positioning) and the test benches (force or displacement setpoints, temperature, functional clearances, dynamic behavior of the bench).

These models are designed to gradually take into account several physics (mechanical, thermal, lubrication, etc.) and scales (asperity, surface, test piece, bench). This objective is in line with ISAE-Supméca's research strategy, which focuses on the development of digital twins, contributing to a better understanding and control of complex industrial systems.

The test-modeling dialogue is therefore of interest both from a theoretical point of view and from an applied point of view. Additionally, the candidate will actively participate in research projects involving industrial and academic partners.

Skills/Qualifications
Desired profile

The candidate will have a good knowledge of methods for modeling nonlinear mechanics in tribology. He/She will be familiar with the techniques used to fit a numerical model from experimental data.

He/She will have to collaborate closely with the members of the team already involved in the experimental activities in order to understand the functioning of the tests and to be able to propose an adequate modelling.

The candidate must have a taste for teamwork and be familiar with multidisciplinarity in order to ensure cross-functionality within the Quartz laboratory. He/she must have good interpersonal skills and teaching skills.
