Offer Description
Education

The candidate will be a member of the ISAE-Supméca mechatronics teaching team, in charge of teaching mechatronics design and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) for complex systems. In this role, the candidate will contribute to developing teaching modules for the MSC (Mechatronics and Complex Systems) course for 3rd-year engineering students. He/she will also be involved in apprenticeship training in mechatronics and aeronautics, helping to supervise student and apprentice projects, and monitoring internships.

He/she will contribute to the development of teaching methods combining collaborative mechatronics design, systems engineering, multiphysics modeling and virtual reality, for instance for autonomous and communicating systems such as drones, cobots, cyber-physical systems (CPS, CPPS), but also for embedded equipment for aeronautics and space. In this context, a pedagogical approach to various digital twin concepts will be developed. He/she will have to be able to acquire complementary skills, in particular to provide pedagogical support for the emergence of new constraints in mechatronics, such as the energy transition and resources management, new technologies and new methods for modeling and simulation, design and production (cf. industry 5.0).

Research

For the design and implementation of systems such as mechatronic and cyber-physical systems (CPS, CPPS), autonomous systems (drones) and robotics, and more generally complex and critical systems, the need to develop a digital twin, both functional and dysfunctional, has become a strong industrial requirement for collaborative and agile design. Integrating system models (MBSE), multiphysics (thermal, electromagnetic, vibratory, etc.) and multidomains (mechanical, electronic, automatic, etc.), dependability (MBSA), artificial intelligence and data processing, etc., the digital twin a both the product and the production process within the framework of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, and incidentally enables the use of virtual and augmented reality.

In order to address scientific issues such as the structuring of the digital twin and its integration, its effectiveness with regard to its objectives (real-time behavior, development assistance, etc.), its implementation and its evolution throughout its life cycle, the candidate will have to work, in collaboration with QUARTZ laboratory teams and our foreign scientific partners, on both theoretical and practical aspects (e.g. types of models, mathematics with category theory, etc.) and experimental aspects with participation in the implementation of physical benches and demonstrators with a view to validating and valorizing the results of the research work.

The candidate will be a member of the IS2M (Mechatronics and Multiphysics Systems Engineering) research team within the Quartz laboratory at ISAE-Supméca, and will work collaboratively with team members. As such, he/she will contribute to the supervision of master's and doctoral students, as well as to the setting up of research projects related to the theme's activities (ANR and IRT projects, Horizon Europe, CIFRE, ISAE group, cotutelles, etc.). He/she will contribute to strengthening academic and industrial partnerships, both national (notably within the ISAE group) and international (notably with Italy and Austria), as well as developing new scientific partnerships.

Skills/Qualifications
Desired profile

The candidate will have to be proactive, have a strong inclination for collaborative teamwork and scientific project management, and appreciate multidisciplinarity in order to encourage cross-disciplinarity within the QUARTZ laboratory, particularly on the theme of the development and usage of a digital twin, more specifically with the VAST, Sustainable Systems and TriboMat teams. To this end, a cross-disciplinary research project may be set up within the QUARTZ laboratory at ISAE-Supméca.

The candidate will have to demonstrate scientific maturity through publications in reference journals and conferences in the scientific field (IEEE, IFAC, etc.) in order to contribute significantly to the scientific influence of the IS2M team of the QUARTZ
