Offer Description

The Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie (CIRI) is a joint unit of Université Lyon 1, Inserm, CNRS and ENS de Lyon, with VetAgro Sup, Institut Pasteur, UJM les Hospices Civils de Lyon. GIMAP joined CIRI in 2021 to develop projects around immunity and mucosal vaccination. GIMAP is internationally recognized for the study of mucosal responses in various inflammatory pathologies, as well as after vaccination. The team is also developing mucosal vaccine strategies and new adjuvants.

This Chair will reinforce the team's participation in the international consortia "Global Pandemic Preparedness" and "100 Days Mission" for the rapid development of vaccine strategies against any emerging pathogen.

The PREVENT project aims to develop new vaccine strategies against emerging pathogens, in particular respiratory and digestive infections, in order to prevent future pandemics. The Chair will be a key player within GIMAP, with a focus on fundamental, clinical and applied research. It will be associated with an international project (IPCEI Santé - Sanofi) focusing on improving mRNA vaccines for respiratory infections, by setting up human challenge models to accelerate vaccine development, particularly against influenza and coronaviruses. The first part of the project will involve the development of these models in humans and the creation of immunological and microbiological tools to validate these models, which are unique in France, in particular around a systemic serology platform dedicated to the study of mucosal responses. A second component of the project will aim to develop new vaccine formulations/platforms dedicated to mucosal (nasal and oral) vaccination, initially for evaluation in preclinical models.

In particular, part of the project will aim to study the effect of innovative adjuvant molecules in inducing robust, high-quality mucosal memory responses, notably via activation of resident memory cells. A new line of fundamental research dedicated to resident memory immunity will be developed within GIMAP to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in generating the resident memory responses essential for mucosal protection after infection and vaccination.

This chair will enable us to develop research at the strategic interface between fundamental (characterization of mucosal memory), clinical and translational (development of vaccine strategies and adjuvant molecules) research. The chair will consolidate partnerships with the private and academic sectors in the field of vaccines and adjuvants.

This Chair in Vaccinology will be dedicated primarily to the LIVE European Erasmus+ Master's degree in Vaccinology, which has been awarded the EACEA label twice. The LIVE consortium is applying for a third call in 2024, with a development strategy focusing on machine learning, data science modelling and artificial intelligence applied to the epidemiological prediction of future pandemics, the development of new models dedicated to the evaluation of vaccine strategies, the development of human challenge models, and the elaboration of new targeted vaccine strategies. The person recruited will provide expertise in the last three areas in particular. The Master LIVE aims to develop continuing education for healthcare personnel through its MOOC. The Chair will also be involved in teaching vaccinology at the Faculty of Medicine, as well as in popularization cycles for the general public through the PRESAGE Institute.

- A selection committee will review the applications and select the candidates it wishes to interview. The shortlisted candidates will be auditioned. Each audition will last 60 minutes, starting with a 20-minutes presentation of the candidate's research project, followed by a 10-minutes presentation of his/her teaching projects, followed by a 10-minutes presentation of his/her program in terms of scientific mediation and institutional insertion, and will conclude with a 20-minutes discussion with the selection committee members. At the end of the hearings, the committee will decide on the merits of the candidates, taking into account the quality and originality of their research projects, their motivations, their forward-looking vision of the field and their scientific and teaching skills.
