Offer Description

The Interuniversity Laboratory of Human Movement Biology brings together researchers, physicians, and engineers with strong recognition in the fields of physiology, biomechanics, neuroscience, and engineering applied to physical activities, sports, and health. The LIBM aims to develop a highly recognized structure in the field of life sciences applied to Sport performance and Health", in terms of both size of the research unit and scientific excellence. The LIBM also aims to innovate in connection with the sports, leisure, and health industries. The scientific orientations of the LIBM are structured around the following keywords: physical activity, sport, health, performance, and prevention. The relationships between these terms are complex and offer multiple research avenues, ultimately aiming to provide individualized recommendations for physical activity to practitioners (athletes or patients).

                https://libm.univ-st-etienne.fr/fr/index.html

The scientific project of the junior professor recruited will focus on exercise therapy. More specifically, the recruited individual is expected to develop testing protocols to better identify the characteristics of physical activity suitable for prescribing to patients (e.g., cancer, stroke, multiple sclerosis, myopathy) based on their needs (what type of exercise?) as well as their responses to exercise (what exercise intensity?). Understanding better the variability of individual responses to exercise will improve exercise prescription by optimizing the effects of exercise for clinical populations. An expert in neuromuscular, cardiovascular, and/or biological adaptations to exercise will complement the team at the LIBM, a world-class laboratory in the study of neuromuscular function/fatigue. In addition to an integrative approach, demonstrating an ability to conduct translational research will be appreciated.

Teaching activities of the recruited professor will mainly be integrated into our “Health and Performance Science” international master's program of the sport sciences department of the Faculty of Science and Technology (https://fac-sciences.univ-st-etienne.fr/fr/formations/staps.html ), as well as into the new Graduate School currently (some leadership in the Graduate School is expected). A value-added contribution to the already provided teachings is expected here. Additionally, the recruited professor is expected to contribute to the development of international actions fostering the emergence of course collaborations with partner universities, thus contributing to the excellence, visibility, and international attractiveness of the offered programs. Once tenured, the recruited professor will also be required to deliver teachings in the "Sports Training" and "Adapted Physical Activities and Health" tracks of the 3rd year of the Bachelor's degree in Sports and Physical Activities Sciences, thereby bringing expertise to specialized teaching units.

The teaching service amounts to 64 annual hours and can be adjusted over the duration of the chair.

The work carried out in this project should be widely disseminated to the general public, particularly in terms of recommendations for improving the health of clinical populations. The recruited professor as well as the (post-)doctoral researchers of the project will be encouraged to participate extensively in various events for the general public (such as the ActiFS conferences, Science Festival, European Researchers' Night, etc.). An ability to capture media attention and communicate the results of the work is also anticipated.

- A selection committee will review the applications and select the candidates to be interviewed. The shortlisted candidates will be auditioned.

Seminar: the candidate will give an open seminar lasting one hour. The first 20 minutes will consist of a MSc level lesson. The remaining 40 minutes will consist of a scientific seminar on the candidate's main work.

Audition: Following this seminar, the candidate will be auditioned for one hour by the recruitment committee. The candidate will present his or her background for 10 minutes, and will then be questioned for around 50 minutes

All discussions will take place in English, Campus Santé of Jean Monnet University (Saint-Étienne).
