Offer Description

The RA will be joining Work Package 1 of ERC-CoG MERMAID. His/ner role will be the compilation and statistical analysis of material/pictorial evidence of fishing from Mediterranean archaeological sites, as well as participation in the preparation of a e-comic/cartoon and a photographic exhibition on fishing activities in ancient Mediterranean.

The responsibilities of the RA will include:
• Bibliographical compilation of material/pictorial evidence of fishing from Mediterranean archaeological sites (prehistory, antiquity), input in the M-ARCHIVES Database (Mediterranean Marine Archives).
• Data processing and typological/functional analysis (architectural, artefacts, pictorial).
• Suntheses production. compilation of scientific papers (English).
• Participation in the preparation of outreach projects (e-comic,, cartoon, exhibition).
• Participation in the scientitic publications the MERMAID team.
• Participating/presenting results in workshops, and in conferences (France, abroad).

This job offer is part of the H2020 ERC-Consolidator Grant MERMAID - Marine Ecosystems, Animal Resources and Human Strategies in Ancient Mediterranean: Integrated Studies on Natural and Societal Resilience (2021-2026, PI T. Theodoropoulou, CEPAM-CNRS, Grant Agreement no. 101002721). The successiul candidate will de joining Work Package 1 of the program, and will work closely with the Pl of the program Tatiana Theodoropoulou (researcher CNRS), the CEPAM's Database manager Antoine Pasqualin (Study Engineer, CNRS), as well as the project's researcher in charge of the database of faunal data (M-ARCHIVES - Mediterranean Marine Archives). His/her contribution will be pivotal in the creation of the first database grouping together ancient fishing material culture that will complete the marine faunal database. He/She contribute to large-scale syntheses or ancient fishing activities by MERMAID team members as well as to the preparation of outreach activities (online, France).
The researcher will be based in CEPAM-UMR 7264, Nice. Occasional tavel for bibliographical search or identifications of unpublished material evidence (France, mediterranean countries) may be needed.

Additional Information
Eligibility criteria

• Background in Mediterranean archaeology/maritime archaeology (MA/PhD).
• Excellent knowledge of the Mediterranean archaeological context required.
• Experience in advanced bibliographic search and compilation; knowledge of Zotero software.
• Data management (experiance with FileMaker, Excel), Sound understanding of SQL-lqnguqge, Database development (PostGreSQL), and Q-GIS (web-mapping) will be appreciated.
• Solid knowledge of statistical tools commonly used in archaeology, especially multi-variate analyses; experience with R software will be appreciated.
• Required languages (written reports, scientific papers, oral communications): English (high level). Knowledge of any other circum-Mediterranean language is welcome (level: bibliographic searches).
• Willingless to work as part of the project, dynamism, autonomous thinking, communication.
