A Post doctoral or Research Engineer position in vascular tissue engineering using bioprinting techniques is available starting immediately in the Cell Therapy Unit at the St Louis Hospital, Paris.

Context

Fabricating biological substitutes for tissue engineering requires the in vitro reconstitution of a relevant 3D microenvironment enabling cells to self-organize into a functional tissue. Several bioprinting techniques from extrusion to light-assisted bioprinting have brought opportunities to design and guide 3D bioengineered constructions that recreate aspects of the native cellular microenvironment [1]. As soon as the reconstructed tissue reaches clinically relevant sizes of a few mms, vascularization becomes a vital requisite to bring nutrients and oxygen to the cells during in vitro maturation and subsequent transplantation. In our lab, we have developed a biocompatible approach based on a light-assisted bioprinting method called Digital Light Processing (DLP) to address two different challenges in tissue engineering, namely the respective fabrication of epithelial [2] and of endothelial microtubular networks with predefined geometry. Endothelial networks were thus obtained using primary progenitor endothelial cells and stable networks could be maintained in vitro for weeks (unpublished results).
