Offer Description

Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France’s leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.

BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to:: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.

The Water, Environment, Process Development and Analysis Division (DEPA) seeks to provide solutions to societal issues concerning the environmental impacts of human activities on the geosphere (mainly on topics such as circular economy, waste recycling and natural resource management).

You will be joining the Waste and Raw Materials (DEPA/DMP) research Unit and contribute to the scientific and technical production in the field of processing/recovery of primary and secondary mineral resources (industrial waste, urban mine resources, by-products).

Skills/Qualifications

You will demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

- Confirmed skills in process/chemical engineering,

- Desired skills in mineral processing (comminution, physical and physico-chemical separation techniques),

- Desired skills in hydrometallurgy (dissolution, precipitation, liquid/liquid separation, electrolysis, etc.),

- Desired skills in process modelling and simulation (e.g. on one of the following software: Fluent, Comsol, Prosim, Aspen or Syscad),

- Ability to show a diligent and precise work ethic, especially in the laboratory or in the BRGM testing hall and to synthesise and transmit scientific results,

- Ability to be work independently in the organisation of daily work and also take part in multidisciplinary teamwork,

- Communication skills, good interpersonal skills

- Language skills: English (proficient) and French (intermediate


Specific Requirements

This full-time position involves frequent travels in France and abroad for short-term assignments. Laboratory work and use of chemicals.
