Job Description

OFCE, the Economic Research Center of Sciences Po, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to an exciting new European project that entails mapping, analyzing and disseminating the well-being economy and well-being policies in the European Union. The project is part of a major European health policy initiative, the Joint Action on Cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) prevention (JA PreventNCD), bringing together more than 20 participating EU member to support strategies and policies designed to reduce the burden of cancer and other NCDs focusing on both personal and societal risk factors.

Within this project, OFCE/Sciences Po has been selected to map and promote a European Well-being Economy, i.e. an economy centered on human well-being starting with human health in all of its dimensions. This effort is part of a broad academic and policy agenda aimed at developing post-growth approaches, moving beyond standard economic frameworks and visions to focus on improving human well-being within planetary boundaries.

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to:

  • Clarifying the conceptual foundations of the Well-being economy in order to characterize the analytical framework underpinning well-being policies;
  • Furthering the operationalization and Europeanization of the Well-being Economy by assembling a “European Well-being economy toolbox” comprising existing and emerging well-being policies and their features.

 

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in an area such as health studies, socio-environmental dynamics, ecological economics, natural/social sciences interface, etc. Interest/knowledge in/of the post-growth agenda, expertise in public policy design (at different levels of governance) and experience in research project management is essential; skills in quantitative research methods and/or computer programming is highly desirable.

Details on the Position

The position is available to start as soon as possible (no later than May 1st 2024), and will last for 18 months. Completion of a PhD by the start date of the contract is a requirement for the position.

The position will be based in OFCE/Sciences Po (Paris, France) under the supervision of Éloi Laurent. The gross salary per month full time is 3850€.
