Offer Description

The Apollon laser facility about to demonstrate an advanced adaptive optics system known as ARTAO (Apollon Real Time Adaptive Optics). This system is developed to ensure the quality of the laser's focal spot for user experiments. ARTAO is based on an open-source code, Compute And Control for Adaptive Optics (cacao), and runs on a real-time Ubuntu computer. The Postdoc will join the Apollon facility's operations team and will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and expanding the capabilities of ARTAO. This position is key for the operational success and ongoing development of ARTAO.

The tasks of the postdoctoral will include:
• Gain comprehensive understanding and expertise in the ARTAO system
• Operating ARTAO during experimental campaigns
• Extending ARTAO capabilities in hard- and software, based on evolving needs and potentially for Apollon's 10 PW beamline
• Documentation and knowledge conservation for future operators
• Integration with and extension of the TANGO-based control system of Apollon
(Tango website: https://www.tango-controls.org/ )

The mission will be carried out on the APOLLON facility. APOLLON is a Research Infrastructure (RI*) under the supervision of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the École Polytechnique. Designed to reach an exceptional multipetawatt laser peak power, the infrastructure allows the production of particle beams and radiation with unique parameters. APOLLON is operated by LULI (Laboratoire pour l'Utilisation des Lasers Intenses), a joint research unit (CNRS, École Polytechnique, CEA, Sorbonne Université, UMR 7605), located on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau), on the Orme des Merisiers site (Saclay) and on the Jussieu campus of Sorbonne University in Paris. The laboratory has 100 staff (65 engineers and technicians and 35 researchers). LULI is an academic research center and a training center in hot plasma physics and laser optics. The LULI laboratory provides the scientific community with laser chains and competitive experimental facilities suitable for research on the physics of hot and dense plasmas created by lasers.
The post-doctoral position is integrated In the frame of the EU project for advancing “Technology for High-Repetition Rate Intense Laser Laboratories” (THRILL : https://www.thrill-project.eu ) obtain by LULI and 8 European partners in the framework of HORIZON-INFRA-2022-TECH-01-01 - R&D for the next generation of scientific instrumentation, tools and methods The THRILL project provides new schemes and devices for pushing forward the limits of research infrastructures of European relevance and ESFRI landmarks. Eight partners joined forces not only to work on advancing technology in the field of high-energy high-repetition-rate lasers, but also to train a highly skilled workforce for tomorrow's challenges in research infrastructures and industry.
