Offer Description

The Laboratoire de Psychologie Sociale et Cognitive (Laboratory of Social and Cognitive Psychology, LAPSCO–UMR UCA-CNRS 6024) is offering a postdoctoral position for 12 months to work on inclusive language and more specifically on eye movements during the reading of inclusive forms in sentence processing.

The candidate will work at the LAPSCO and will join a project funded by the French ANR, entitled "Social and Cognitive Psychology of Inclusive Language" (SCOPIL) with Ludovic Ferrand and Delphine Martinot as principal investigators. In this project, we examine how cognitive and social psychological processes shape acceptance or rejection of inclusive language among adults and adolescents. To achieve this aim, we articulate the knowledge of cognitive psychology on reading and that of social psychology on intentions on one hand and on intergroup identity dynamics and legitimizing ideologies of the status quo on the other hand. In workpackage A (corresponding to this postdoctoral position), we propose an examination of cognitive processes as effects of inclusing language on reading performance and psychological processes as an intention to use inlusive language. Our results will provide critical evidence to the current societal debate about the use of inclusive language.

The postdoc will participate to the following tasks :
-selection of linguisitic materials in French and programming the experiments ;
-running the experiments ;
-statistical analyses of the results ;
-writing the articles in English and participating to international meetings.

The candidate will work at the LAPSCO (a CNRS lab), in a team consisting of Ludovic Ferrand (Research Director CNRS), co-director of the post-doc, Magali Ginet (Professor UCA), co-director of the post-doc, Delphine Martinot (Professor UCA), Armelle Nugier (Lecturer UCA), Sandrine Redersdorff (Lecturer UCA), as wall as a new doctorate student that will be hired in october 2024.

Additional Information
Eligibility criteria

Two profiles can correspond to the postdoctoral position:

-A profile in cognitive psychology: the candidate must hold a PhD in cognitive psychology, with excellent knowledge in eye movements in reading. Ideally, the candidate should be expert in programming experiments (PsychoPy, E-Prime Presentation or OpenSesame), signal acquisition in eye movements (Tobii Pro Spectrum) and analyses of eye movements in reading.

-A profile in social psychology: the candidate must hold a PhD in social psychology, with excellent knowledge on psychological mechanisms predicting intentions, as well as on intergroup identity dynamics and on legitimization of the statu quo dynamics.

For both profiles, a robust expertise on Bayesian analyses as well as on Linear Mixed Effects Modelling would be strongly appreciated or to acquire at the beginning of the postdoctoral position.
